1. I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It looks like your ancestors changed the surname ending from "man" to "nan." There a lot more of the latter than the former. 2. For Patrick Heffernan B 1810 in Limerick, I get 1 hit. For Patrick M 1841 +/- 1 yr in Limerick, I get 5 hits. Suggest you try to find his spouse's forename and/or surname. 3. For Johanna B 1842 +/- 1 yr in Limerick, I get 1 hit. If this is indeed your ancestor, then the rcd should list the names of her parents. This should solve the dilemma posed in 2 above. 4. For the surname Cahill (+variants) there are abt 11,900 Bs in all Ireland in the entire database. For John Cahill (exact) B 1844 +/- 2 yrs, there are 65 hits. Suggest you find his tombstone or obit to give you an exact date of birth. This should reduce the hits to abt 20. 5. After 1864, registration for births and marriages was civil and fairly comprehensive. For a John Cahill M in 1865 +/- 2 yrs, there are 26 hits. For Johanna Heffernan M in the same range, there are 6 hits. Will let you sort out the year and parish in which a hit occurs for both parties, if any. (Note - marriage rcds MAY list the names of the parents of both the bride and groom.) Civil rcds can be found via http://www.groireland.ie. Notify Administrator about this message?
