My great grandmother was Catherine Mary Margaret Hagan. She married John W. Riegel in St. Louis, Missouri in 1900. Her parents are listed on her death cert as James Hagan and Mary Igoe (maiden name). 1n 1880 they(Mary and James) had 7 children. they were: Catherine, Ann, Mary,Michael,Elisa,John, and Thomas. According to the 1880 census, James brother Michael was living with them. Mary appears to be 20 years younger than James. Though you can't really trust spelling and ages on the census, this seems consistant between 1870 and 1880. I lost them after 1880 (Mary and James) and I am not sure when they immigrated. It was made very clear to me as a child that James was an "O'Hagan" he wouldve been born around 1828 in Ireland, Mary wouldve been born around 1848 in Ireland. I have no idea if they married before or after they immigrated. I am trying to prove the "O" because I want to give it back to them. At least in my family tree anyway. I don't think that a person should have to disguise his heritage to get a job. I understand that they were very strong and honorable people. I am proud to say that my Great Grandmother Catherine, My Grandmother Cecilia, My Mother Gwendolyn, Myself, and my youngest daughter Theresa were all born and lived in "Kerry Patch". Unfortunatly, the names are just so darn "Irish Catholic"(no malice intended,I'm Irish Catholic too.) that there are what seems like a million James and Mary Hagans. Help.
