I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. There is only ONE rcd for the surname McCorkhill in all Ireland; this was a Sarah Jane B 1902 in Co. Tyrone. From your post, my best guess for a date of birth for your Irish ancestor would be 1804 +/- 4 yrs. If you live in the U.S., there should be census rcds and naturalization papers.

It looks like the surname has morphed thru the years. It was common at that time for a person to be so illiterate they were unable to spell their name or know their date of birth. I dropped the "Mc" and searched again. This time, I got 78 B hits, all on surname variants; however, none are prior to 1828. The earliest variants are concentrated in Co. Mayo. Later variants are seen in Armagh and Tyrone.

Without further research by you to find his parents' and grandparents' names, your search in Ireland is premature at best. If you live in Australia, or New Zealand, the English kept better rcds of ships passengers there than for ships bound for the U.S. and Canada.

Good luck.
