When I visited Carlow a few years ago and looked at the Birth registers, I noticed that there were some McQuaide births around the same time as my grandfather and his siblings (1860s/70s) but the father was William McQuaide and they seemed to live near but outside Carlow Town. I wondered if these could be cousins. Does this sound likely? I don't know if John McQuaide had any siblings locally. I gather that McQuaide is more likely to come from the Monaghan area rather than Carlow, but I don't know when my McQuaides arrived in Carlow.
