Henry was my great uncle. He seems to be have been one of about 10 children of whom I know that only 7 survived to adulthood. The other survivors were Thomas (my grandfather), Robert, John, Charles, Arthur and Mary. I think one of the children who died was named Harriet. Where did you find Henry's information? Maybe I could find all the others there? The birth registrations are not to helpful as I think there are other McQuaide families in the same locality. The baptismal records may be better but I only found two when I visited St Marys Church. I'm going back in October and may find more then.

Thank you for the information about Michael Wilson - I just found that in the Slaters Directory 1842 - he dealt in coal, corn and was a grocers/tea dealer.

John McQuaide had a booksellers & stationers shop at 42 Dublin Street Carlow Town. I've seen the building but it was boarded up when I visited last time. I think that John lived next door for many years and also seems to be the address for Mary and her Aunt Elisabeth on the 1901 census. There are stories about a big house down by the river but I don't know how to find out about it. According to the Landowners 1870 John M'Quaide, address Carlow, owned 8 acres - that is definitely too big for the plot in Dublin Street.
