William Meehan, son of William Meehan and Elizabeth Cleary, was born in Rahan, Kings County (Offaly) in 1827. He married Ellen McLoughlin, daughter of John McLoughlin and Margaret Weir, and they had at least five children: Thomas, William, Edward, Mary and John. The family owned a brick yard in Rahan, and emigrated to Troy New York in the 1880's.
