Quirk, Frank, Nichols, Luby, Hackett, Power(s), Hewetson, Collins Hi Kathy, I don't see any connection between my Quirks and your Quirk-Luby family at this time, but I will check back with you if a connection develops. And of course I hope that you will do the same. Thank you for sending the listing of the five Hacketts in the 1766 Religious Census for Ballyclerahan (Clerihan). I have never made any connection with Hackett and would be very happy to get something on them. Regarding the Power Group I was sent the following from the Quirk descendant who has the information on Edmund Quirk: The notes are from Aunt Katie Nichols, November 20, 1946, copied by Father Anton Frank. "These notes are about Edmond Quirk. He migrated to Texas around 1834 as a member of the Powers Irish Colony (Power and Hewetson Colony). James Powers arrived at Ballygarrett, County Wexford, Ireland in June of 1833. He enlisted 300 families. The ships, Prudence and Heroine sailed to New Orleans. The Prudence sailed 12/26/1834 with Captain Collins from Liverpool. The ships arrived in New Orleans in early spring but seventy passengers had cholera and others had died and were buried at sea. The ship had to be abandoned and all possessions of the passengers had to be abandoned. Quirk later settled in Refugio County. He was accompanied by his wife and 3 children. His first wife died and he remarried and moved to a ranch on the Colorado River. Schooners called the Wild Cat, Sea Lion and The Sabine carried colonists to Texas. The Wild Cat and Sea Lion landed at Aransas Pass on St. Josephs Island. They shipwrecked, Cholera set in and many died. The Sabine carried colonists to Copano." I note that Power has an "s" in James Powers' name. Usually I saw the group listed as Power. This shows the Quirks heading to Co. Wexford to leave Ireland, but was James Power(s) from Tipperary? Possibly James Power(s) has been researched because that was quite an endeavor he attempted and there were so many lost during the journey. Please let me know if you find anything on the Power Group. Good luck, Mary Notify Administrator about this message?
