I have never commissioned a search; therefore, I can't comment on the two your mentioned. However, one of the people I helped commissioned a search by the Tipperary Family History Research center. They didn't find anything and didn't search outside of the few parishes in their database. His fee was 66 euros. He wasn't pleased. The county centers which collectively constitute the IFHF's sources have all been around for several years. They have staff geneologists. Geneology is a major industry in Ireland. So much so that the universities offer degrees in this specialty. Suggest you contact both centers and see what their fees are. 66 euros SHOULD buy you either of the following: Primary Search Will generate, where found: — the ancestor's Baptismal and Marriage records — the Marriage record of the ancestor's parents — the Baptismal records of the ancestors children — the Baptismal record of the father of the named ancestor .....(where dates allow) Secondary Search Will generate, where found: — the ancestor's Baptismal and Marriage records — the Marriage record of the ancestor's parents — the Baptismal records of the ancestors siblings — the Baptismal record of the father of the named ancestor .....(where dates allow) Suggest you try to get a flat rate rather than a pay by the hour. I think the hourly rate is abt US$90 and a minimum of 10 hrs. I hope the above gives you some boundaries to consider when commissioning a search. Note - The IFHF and the LDS Family History Libraries both used original parish rcds, or microfilms thereof. I have noticed that the LDS rcds are more complete and MAY include the work of LDS members. The drawback is that they are harder to search. Pls let me know the results of your commission and your satisfaction with the center. Notify Administrator about this message?
