There is a document (several pages) where my ancestor Lemuel Taylor who is Lemuel Israel's contemporary in a legal affadavit validating the marriage of Olive Regan and Lemuel Israel which I've been trying to get copies of for over 3 months so far without success. Also, both the family bibles of John and David Israel refer to Olive being Lemuel Israel's wife and David Israel (Molcy Hester's Johns wife's son and my Great Great Grandmother Mary Jane Israel's mother also). There is no mention of an Edith Taylor either by Lemuel Taylor, Lemuel Israel, John Israel or his son David Israel in the Bibles or papers. So, if John's brother's son George Washington has such information in his father's Newits Bible there is definitely a conflict which all of us should investigate and resolve and Sam West being the accomplished researcher that he is can find it in the Robeson Land Records if anyone can.
On the ever present Izzell/Ezzell/Easel or whatever spellings it seems to me that no one has ever suggested that perhaps JUST PERHAPS those spellings may indeed be incorrect mishearings, mistranslations of the name ISRAEL which the proponents of the Various Ezzell names purport. It could just could be the other way around in my view. Israel all along.
Another point I have discovered in German History of the 15, 16 and 1700's many Jews purposely took widely recognized Bible Names such as Israel to hide there Jewish Identity and others in converting to mostly fringe groups of Protestant Evangelical churches such as the Primitive Baptists and Free Will Baptists, Mennonites, Quakers, etc., their abhorrence of any connection to Political Government being firmly believed and practiced. Ifind it extremely pleasing that Olive Regan belonged to a branch of Methodistism that abhorred human slavery and actively spoke out against it.
This did not go unnoticed by the authorities in Germany and culminated in the 20th century with the Nazi's commanding all Jewish men be referred to en masse as Israel and Jewish Women as "Sarah" to defeat such conversions and attempts to hide Jewish Idenity and escape the persecution agaist them.
As to Edith Taylor I would not be unhappy at all to discover an unknown Taylor ancestor as being Lemuel Israel's wife as it would certainly only add to my Israel/Taylor DNA and my own mother the daughter of Maggie Taylor Lemuel Israel's great grand daughter's middle name was Esther Edith. So far however I've hit a brick wall with Edith Taylor but I will be back down in Lumberton at the courthouse and among many mixed Taylor Israel Pitman Phillips Britt, Wishart relatives and do my own research on Edith Taylor. Nothing is more exciting than a genuine genealogical mystery.
