A Jew would not have been the godparent of a Catholic child, certainly not in 1832. Neither the Jew nor the Catholic would have agreed to such a thing.

Semft is not a common name among Jews. The name does not appear in Yad Vashem records. Jewish Records Indexing-Poland shows one example: Semft in Tarnow, Galicia (see http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~jripllat2).

Do not be mislead by the fact that Anna was the daughter of Jacob, a name common among Jews. Jacob was also a very popular name among ethnic Germans, and Semft is a German name.
