I have always heard the same story. My Aunt, Letha Kobs, is our family historian. You might email her at lfkobs@shreve.net. There is also a book by Leila Belle LaGrone about Panola County and the LaGrones. Although Miss Leila Belle recently passed away, there is a treasure trove of information at the old jail house museum.
