You should be able to find his death record which "sometimes" provides a cause of death. (The records which are easily available for deaths in 1891 are extractions of a more complete record which probably would provide some sort of cause of death but not necessarily. Sometimes the cause of death is called "not given", for example.) The cause of death written down by a priest in 1891 will not necessarily be the same cause of death a modern physician would have found. ;-) Medicine has come a long way since 1891.

If you wish to subscribe to the fee-based Genline site, you could see that record right away, assuming you are correct about the year he died. You would hopefully find him in the same parish he was in during 1890, which would be listed among the other parishes in the entire county of Östergötland.

You need the "SCB" records for 1891 and also need to make sure you have the death (Döda) records. Read about the SCB records on this page.

If you do not wish to subscribe to Genline, you could order the microfilm from any Family History Center (about $5.50 per microfilm for a month's use at the Family History Center) and wait for a few weeks to see the film. You need to order this film, which also contains births and marriages along with the deaths for every parish in Östergötland county.

Questions about Swedes living in Sweden should be asked on the Sweden board. Type in Sweden into the "Jump to Forum" box on the top right side of this page.

The full death records (which are more likely to provide some sort of cause of death) should be available from the Landsarkiv (Regional Archive)in Sweden. You would need to contact them. I think this may be the correct archive for your ancestor.
