There was a Mari (Maria without the a being written?) born on 16 September 1847 in Hörja parish. She was baptised 26 September. Parents were Arrendator (a type of farmer) Johan Nilsson and his wife Kristiana Björk in Rya (a village in Hörja parish. The mother was 31 years old. Witnesses to that baptism were also listed. Source of that information is the birth and baptism records in 1847 for Hörja, found on the fee-based Genline site.Genline has scans of the handwritten parish records, for a fee. http://www.genline.com This is the specific page where I found that birth record. GID # (Genline Identification Number) 1463.11.6600 You wrote that Maria "is said to be the daughter of Per Johansson of Horja, Skane." Who said that? What is the source of that information? She must have been a bit ahead of her time to use Johansson (son of Johan, which was popular among females later) since she was definitely the daughter (dotter) of Johan and might have also been called Johansdotter. That girl emigrated, according to Emibas, so she would have had to return to Sweden to marry. That is not impossible but that "story of his life" on the Ancestry site is only a story without sources. I hope there were sources. (Also realize that just mentioning his father's name means little since these patronymic names were exceedingly common.) Post 405010 Johansson, Maria Piga = maid. (unmarried woman) b. 9/16/1847 in Hörja, Kristianstads län (Skåne) Emigrated 8/24/1868 from Björkeröd 1, Hörja, Kristianstads län (Skåne) to Amerika Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 81 Emibas migration file ID: Hörja L 1868 013 No one by those names is listed as being married in Hörja on that date. In fact, few marriages happened that entire year in that parish. I see only three marriages on this Genline page. GID # 100011.51.30000 I don't remember if I suggested the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center. http://www.augustana.edu/swenson/ I also don't remember if this site was suggested to give you ideas of how to search for these early arrivals in the U.S. http://www.progenealogists.com/scandinavianimmigration.htm This page tells the type of information needed to research Swedes with patronymic and other common names. http://www.genealogi.se/roots/krav.htm Judy Notify Administrator about this message?
