Hello all LAWS family researchers! I have been DNA tested and found that my LAWS male Y-DNA line is R1b1c10. This line is believed to be linked to the Cimbri Tribe who resided on the north end of the Jutland peninsula, and probably came, in my families case, to Norfolk County of East Anglia in the 9th century with the vikings (google "Danelaw"). Norfolk County England has the highest concentrations of people with the name LAWS. Testing with DNA allows you to link to other researchers knowing you have a common ancestor. The most common place to test is with Family Tree DNA (http://www.familytreedna.com), but you can plan on paying a couple of hundred dollars. But there is another option that is free. That is through the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation. (http://www.smgf.org/) This is a non-profit foundation out of Temple Square, Salt Lake City, UT that will DNA test you for free. They are very slow sometimes taking more than a year versus a few weeks when you pay, but the price is right. After a couple of years of using DNA in my genealogy work, I am getting a good handle on the subject. I am now a firm believer in this tool in breaking down those research walls. I am more than willing to answer any question if anyone is interested in testing. If there is enough interest, I would be willing to start and administer a LAWS/LAWES specific project. Currently, there is a LAW Family DNA project that is graciously accepting LAWS. This is a very small project, but you may view it at this site. The numbers look intimidating, but don't worry, looking at those is the administrators job. Make sure to check out the Patriarchs page. This matches a family line to the numbers. The numbers can tell if two researchers are related and approximate how many generations back. Especially useful when matching people across the pond. http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/l/law/results.html John S. Laws john@laws.tc Notify Administrator about this message?
