General Robert E Lee's ancestry is fairly well documented. About the only line that isn't is the Cobb's Hall line as far as I know. It would appear that Elizabeth's mother was probably named Cynthia - back then people spelled a lot of words the way they sounded rather than using the spellings of today. The problem would be that census records back that far list only heads-of-household. There are numerous John Thompson's. You also have to consider the fact that after the end of the Civil War - the latter part of the 1800's - early 1900's - it was considered very posh to say your line of Lee's descended from "the Lee line of Virginia". If you count the number of people on this site alone whose ancestors told the same tale, you'll see what I mean - my own line included. Your best bet might be to contact the Society of Lee's of Virginia. If she was related to this line of Lee's it sure to be documented there.
