Frederick LEONAD is not Benoni's son.  He's the son of Stephen & Anna LEONARD, also of Oneida Co., NY [New York]. A family descendant brought the truth to light.  So.............we have to eliminate Fred.  Although the 1840 census indicates that Benoni and wife (Eunice) had one child under age 5, and we are not able to locate Benoni anywhere on the 1850 census, we have no idea if the son reached maturity, married, and had a family.  Benoni's death (according to Brad's information from Manwaring Leonard's genealogy book), occurred May 20, 1863, oddly enough the same exact date and the same exact place (Lockport, Niagara Co., NY) as the death of his brother Thomas (who married Betsey Peck).  Cousin A. and I have been trying to find out if this is just an error in reporting the information about either one of these brothers, or whether some terrible incident happened in Lockport on that date.

Another of our projects is tracing the daughters and their families.  Jan has been very helpful in sourcing out people with the information we need (or who will generously check records for us) and we have fairly good information on Benoni's daughters.  I have the death certificate of the oldest (Maryetta/Marietta who married Dwight Ray Cook) citing that Benoni Leonard and Mary Brookins were her parents and Jan is tracking information on another daughter (Cynthia Jane who married Anson Benjamin).  The only daughter who moved out of New York, to Kendall and Grundy Cos., Illinois, is Harriet Leonard who married Thomas Jefferson Cody.

His second wife, Eunice, died in 1842 (we have no location) so, unless Benoni married for a third time and perhaps left the area, we don't know where to find him.
Benoni, being an unusual name, hasn't helped either, because he may show up in records as simply "Ben" or Benjamin", and there are so many Leonards in records, we don't know where to look first.

Can you help us please?
Thanks for your help,
