Seek 3rd wife's name of Benoni LEONARD b. ~1785 CT>MA>NY ~can't find 1850 census

My Cousins A & B and I are seeking name of 3rd wife of Benoni Leonard b. ca 1785 in either MA or CT [Massachusetts or Connecticut].  He would have been in his late 50s.  His brother, Thomas LEONARD d. 20 May 1863 in Lockport, Niagara, NY.

His first wife, Mary or Lucy BROOKINS, married possibly in Oneida Co., NY, died in 1825 in German Flats, New York. (He would have been about 40 with daughter's ages about 15, 13, 9, and 2.)
He married his second wife, Eunice BENEDICT, in 1825 in Herkimer Co., NY, and had one daughter (born 1827) that we know about.

By 1830 he had a male child less than 5 years old but we don't know what happened to the boy, possibly died young?  By 1840 NY census Benoni and Eunice LEONARD were alone and that's where we lose him.  Eunice died 1842.

Another researcher found a Benjamin Leonard (well, you know, close to "Benoni") who was living in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY.  She said he was "alone" (perhaps she meant he was not married):

1860 census Kings Co., Brooklyn, 9th Ward, 1st District, 10/1/1860, Dwelling #1045
Leonard, Benjamin, age 75, born MA
Atwater, John H., age 35, merchant, value of personal estate $3,000, born CT
Atwater, Jane B., age 32, born MA (born c 1828)
Atwater, John, age 6, born NY
Atwater, Elizab, age 5, born NY
Coleman, Margaret, age 21, servant, born Ireland

The age and place of birth are believable and Jane could be a daughter born of a third marriage, but I doubt if she was born in MA.  Maybe that's just a reporting error.
Is "Benjamin" really "Benoni"?

Seeking "Benjamin" LEONARD with a 22-year old daughter (Jane) on an 1850 census or the ATWATERs in 1870 and 1880?  It appears that Mr. ATWATER was fairly well off and we can pursue a death record for "Benjamin" somewhere in the Brooklyn area (newspapers?) after 1860.

Arlene wrote the options above.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Jan <jnrose@webtv.net>
