Obit from old newspapers in Pope County, Arkansas "Mrs. Mary Tucker (nee Love) died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anthony, Wednesday evening, Feb. 20, 1895. She was born in North Carolina, April 7, 1806. She married to Louis Tucker in 1821, emigrated to Kentucky in 1833, and from thence to Arkansas in 1837, settled in Pope County, where she has lived ever since. She has six children yet living, all of whom were at her funeral. Thus another of our early settlers is gone. She ended a life of almost 89 years, and might have lived longer but for a fall and the excitement of the recent buring of the hotel. Her mother lived to the age of 93. She was religious, soul and body, converted at about 12 years, joined the Methodist Episcopal church (being long before the divison into North and South). When the division came she was in that part of the old M. E. church designated as South, in which she has been true to its interests and to Christ. Her joy was in the Lord, her delight in his service. She had a christian experience of which she was never ashamed to speak to any one. To the children and relatives we say submit and thank God that he spared mother to almost four score and ten yeasr, and to see her great-grand children's children." ------ From the marriages of Pope Co. Arkansas: Mary Tucker age 43 to Orrin TAYLOR age 31 on 09 Nov 1848 by J. D. Perkins, JP Book A page 122 Pope Co. AR. If you did not know of this second marriage for this lady, you could not find her in the 1850 census in Pope Co. In her father's will in Stanly Co. NC she is listed as Mary TAYLOR. Dwelling 434 TAYLOR, Oron 36 m OH farmer TAYLOR, Mary 44 f NC TAYLOR, George W. 12 m AR TAYLOR, James M. 10 m AR TAYLOR, Ransom F. 5 m AR I think that these three TAYLOR sons are not Taylor's but TUCKERs. See census below. 1860 Pope Co. AR. Illinois Township Dwelling 50 (Russellville area) TUCKER, Mary 53 f NC TUCKER, Jas. M. 19 m AR TUCKER, Ransom F. 16 m AR These are the same two younger boys listed as TAYLOR in the 1850 census. Mary TUCKER is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Section 1 in Russellville, AR. Her dates 07 Apr 1808 - 20 Feb 1895. Can't explain why stone has 1808 and obituary has 1806. I have found many marriages for the children of this family in Pope County. But not one for a daughter who married a Mr. Anthony. Many of them are also buried in Oakland Cemetery. Notify Administrator about this message?
