Oral tradition states that the Lucas' were killed in a carriage accident, "in South Carolina" one dying instantly and the other lingering for a few days before death. The children Jonus T, James Austin, Josephus Henry and Frances (Female) were left alone at the cemetery and later farmed out to others. Jim was taken in by the Koon family. His brother, Josephus, was raised by the White family.

On the Lexington Co. South Carolina 1850 census On page ? , line 332, it shows James A Lucas 30 farmer place of birth S.C. Caroline 25, James A. 2, Jonas F. 1, Germina 62, Juli Ann F. 21. This leads me to belive that James and Caroline are the most likelyest parents of the orphens and that Germina is probably the mother of James Sr. and that Juli Ann is probably his sister.

If any one has info on James, Caroline, or Germina Please let me know.

Thanks Gary
