The St. Charles (Ill.) Review, Oct. 18, 1878
On Monday evening an urchin ten or twelve years old, claiming to hail from Chicago, registered at the Mallory House. The next morning he was caught ransacking a bureau in Mrs. Mallory's room, and had just found her purse, a bunch of keys, and a cigar case were also in his possession. He was told to get out of town instanter, which he did. It is supposed that he had been sent out to get the lay of things preparatory to a raid by his associates. It was a mistake to let him go so but Mrt. Mallory had to take the train. - Advocate Cor.
