David could be the son of Catherine. My computer jumps around when I'm typing. Stephen is gone in 1850. Census records 1850 Wayne CO MO CENSUS YR: 1850 STATE or TERRITORY: MO COUNTY: Wayne DIVISION: District 101 REEL NO: M432-421 PAGE NO: 195B REFERENCE: Enumerated by Thias Smith on 14 September 1850 ============================================== This shows Isham married Catherine before 1850, had a daughter Lavinia and two of his siblings are living in his home. MO Samuel is taken by someone in the family when they move back to KY. They may have taken him at the request of Elizabeth. If it was his father why did all of his children remain in MO so long after he left. The evidence doesn't support the story. I have never found evidence that Elizabeth was a school teacher. According to records she took in laundry. Her daughter couldn't write. John Merry who owned land in Texas died in 1837. That is five years before E.A.M. marries Stephen and 10 years before he is supposed to have stolen her money and moved to TX. The children could have abducted Samuel because Elizabeth was having too much difficulty raising him alone. So many things can happen. Children were not told about those kind of situations so Sarah would not have been consulted as a small child. 1860 census Ripley Co. The index doesn't show the family she was living with. She would have been five in 1850. Hope this information helps. Notify Administrator about this message?
