Well... I haven't saved "documentation" for sometime. I collected hard copies of everything until I ran out of room in my gargage and just chucked it all. It's all from public records of one kind or another...and as you will see , from correspondence with Guy Mallory.

(5) David Mallory 18 Jul 1752 Woodbury bp 24 Sep 1752 Roxbury d 1845 Cornwall, Ct = 28 Dec 1773 Roxbury Ct Lydia Frisbie 17 Feb 1756 Woodbury d 28 Nov 1793 Roxbury (Noah Frisbie 27 Feb 1729 Branford Ct d 17 May 1812 Litchfield Ct =14 Jan 1752 Woodbury Litchfield Ct Margery Post 1731 Litchfield Ct d 23 Jul 1815 Litchfield Ct) (Abiel Frisbie 26 May 1695 Branford Ct d 1740 = 25 Jul 1722 Branford New Haven Ct )(Jonathan Frisbie 28 Oct 1759 Branford New Haven cT d 7 Apr 1695 Branford New Haven Ct = Mary Hoadley) (Edward Frisbie 1620 d 10 May 1690 Branford Ct = 1649 Branford Ct Hannah Culpepper) (Richard Frisbie c 1590 Paris St James clerkenwall ENG d 1635 at sea ? = 30 Nov 1618 Margaret Emerson) (William Hoadley = Mary (Bullard) Farrington) (2) 20 May 1794 New Milford Ct by Rev Nathaniel Taylor Dinah (Welton) Punderson (Widow of David Punderson) David Mallory served as private in Connecticut Line and was placed on the pension roll in 1818 Noah Frisbie served as a private in the Litchfield militia. (DAR 3215)

DAVID Number Three...MY David, the grandfather of Dr. David James Mallery, who knew and wrote extensively about him. This David, who also called himself Mallary, married Lydia Frisbie in Roxbury, and later married Dinah Mary Welton Punderson, It was Dinah's cancer death that bankrupted him and drove him to apply for the pension. Note that his Pension file is number R-6840...just adjacent to the deserter's file. He could never convince the War Office that he was NOT the deserter, and the files were hopelessly mixed up. He had another problem...the other two David Mallorys were both shown on regimental muster rolls, but because he served as Major Eli Leavenworth's runner ("bat-boy") in the War, he was paid by the Major and not by the muster officer, so he had no official record other than his enlistment papers. He claimed nine months conscript service in the New York Upper Hudson campaign. .He is presumed to have died in New Scotland NY (where he had a son Sheldon) sometime around 1838 when he disappeared.
His son, John Mallory, father of Dr. David , applied for the re-instatement of the pension application in 1853, but it was denied also. This is a thick file, and I have a phototstat of the whole series of applications and affidavits.
My investigator at the DAR said two women had received DAR membership based on this David's "service" in the early 1920's, when the DAR standards were not so strict. However, he reports my David's file at the DAR is today empty, no data, and the DAR no longer recognizes the Index listing itself as proof of service.
My David would have a pedigree of David5 (John4, Caleb3. Peter2, Peter1) where obviously this is a different John4 from the pedigree above.

DIFFERENT SUBJECT Note your question mark regarding Margery Post. She was the wife of Noah Frisbie, and the mother of Lydia Frisbie. When the Frisbie family printed its book in the 1980's, I worked with their authors to write the portion on Lydia and David...where they had made several errors in the early drafts, including crediting him with DAR approval and war service..
.
My David's war story is so historically accurate, and was repeated so consistently over many years, that I give it much credit. Also, I noted in my manuscript that he and Lydia named their first-born son after the Rev War "Eli", a name uncommon among Mallerys of the time.

The PENSION files are the accurate affidavits of all three...without referencing them, it is difficult to be accurate about these David5-John4 combinations.

Regards, Guy Mallery

Re: Coleman: my father's cousin, they played together at Dr. David James Mallory's last illness in early 1900's in Phelps, N.Y. Coleman's father: James Johnson Mallory,a son of Dr. David, was the family genealogist of his era, working with Dr. David to preserve his papers. My Dad saw the family genealogy back to Peter painted on one wall of James' house. Then Coleman became the family genealogist of his generation, keeping and adding to his father's papers. Fortunately, he gave some of them to Bristol Center historian, where I found them.

Your Kleckler reference was interesting: Olga Kleckler Mallory, Coleman's wife, hated genealogy and genealogists. She destroyed all Coleman's papers when he died. The undertaker who buried Coleman told me she forbid any newspaper obit or funeral notice of his death so she wouldn't be bothered by relatives !! Her two kids Barbara and Robert have the same attitude. Thank Heavens for those remaining Bristol Center papers from Dr. David's time.

Dr.. David left written descriptions of his father, John Mallory (1795--1883) and his mother, Phebe Johnson. I visited their graves in Aurora, N..Y.. John left Roxbury, Ct. as a teenager and led the family movement to the Scipio/Venice N.Y. area in 1816 or so.

Dr. David also left descriptions of his grandfather, David Mallory (a.k.a. "Mallary" most of his life, especially during Rev. War years) and his grandmother, Dinah Mary (Welton) Punderson, a widow when she married his grandfather, then a widower.. This David was active 1752 -c. 1839, living in Roxbury until in his 60's and then moving reluctantly with his in-laws and son to New York state. His Rev. War pension papers make most interesting reading, but his claims were hard to verify.

The generations of my line prior to this Revolutionary War David Mallary, who was the fifth generation in my lline are:.

Fourth generation: John Mallory 1715-1783 of New Milford and Roxbury Ct. His wife was Anne Woodruff, who bore his children, and in old age, he married the widow Goodsell. This John was an interesting genealogical problem....when he moved to Roxbury there was already a John Mallory well established there, and of course, his son added a third John Mallory to the town records. It was fun sorting them out...in the end the wives and death dates proved the key to identificatrion. I do not believe he was the John Mallory of "Mallory Hill", which I have climbed.

Third generation: Caleb Mallory (1681-1716) of New Haven and New Milford. His wife was Miriam Blakeslee. Data for Caleb and his ancestors, Peter first of New Haven and Peter second of New Haven and Stratford are all basically from Jacobus.

SHAW - FILKINS

A very pretty wedding took place last Thursday afternoon, June 18th, at the home of Mrs. Mary Filkins, near Phelps, when her daughter, Anna D., was married to Fred C. Shaw, of Newark. The bridal couple, preceded by Mr. J. J. Mallery, a cousin of the groom, and Miss Frankie Richmond, a cousin of the bride, descended the stairs to the wedding march played by Mrs. Marshal Filkins. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Wright, of Newark, in a very solemn and impressive manner and was witnessed by about sixty guests, mostly relatives of the bride and groom. Among the guests from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Shaw and son, of Gloversville, Mrs. E. D. Mallery, of Pawnee City, Neb., Mr. J. J. Mallery, of Bristol Centre, and a number from Newark, N. Y. After the formal congratulations were given, a bountiful repast was served. The wedding gifts were quite numerous, many useful ones being given.

The name was changed to Addison, in honor of Joseph Addison, the English author, on April 6, 1808. The early settlers called it also "Tuscarora". August 1 1907: Grand Forks Herald, July 26th. H.J. Mallory died at the home of E.E. Roropaugh, 1324 University Avenue, yesterday morning about four o’clock, age 74 years. Deceased was born in New York State and was married in Levanna, N.Y., to Rebecca E Coddington, and three children blessed this union, two daughter and one son. One daughter died fourteen years ago. With the other, Mr.s EE Rorapaugh, the deceased has made his home for the past five years. The son resides in Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Mallory came to Oakes, N.D., from New York twenty-three years ago. He took a prominent part in the affairs of the county and was a member of the territorial legislature for two terms. He was also commissioner of Dickey County for two years. He was a thoroughly honest man and lived according to the golden rule. He was a ardent temperance advocate and exerted a good deal of influence toward the enactment of anti-liquor legislation in North Dakota. Since removing to Grand Forks his health has not been very good and he lived quietly. He leaves a widow, and two children, already mentioned, to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held this afternoon at two o’clock from the residence 1324 University avenue. Rev. W. H. Matthews will officiate. –Mr. Mallory was a respected and honored citizen of Dickey County until five years ago when he removed to Grand Forks. He was president of the Dickey County Sunday School Association until his removal from the county, and it is due to his untiring work that the association stands today as the most progressive for Sunday school work in the state. He was interested in all good work and left an impress for higher and better things wherever he moved. Dicky county friends learned of his death with much regret.

There are documents with the Register of Deeds in Dickey County showing, Fredrick B. Bowen, a younger brother of Albert, purchasing 177 acres of land in Towenship 132 on August 27, 1883. Page 430 Bb3. In 1881 Fredrick and Albert had both sold land they owned in Cayuga County, New York before moving to ND. Most of the sales were to their father Alfred Bowen. Fredrick died in 1884. It appears he died in North Dakota but his name appears on the Alfred grave marker in Aurora, Cayuga County, New York. Albert E. Bowen purchased 179 acres on November 26, 1884 in Township 132, page 331 Bb3.
Note: 6/20/1999 I recently discover in the Dakota Territory 1885 Census that Harrison John Mallory and his wife Rebecca E. Mallory, Stella Rebecca (Mallory) Bowen's parents, had also moved to James River Township at about the same time as Albert Eugene and Stella Bowen. From the Bowen family and other records we know Benjamin Clinton Bowen, born July 20, 1881, was born in Levanna, Cayuga County, New York. From Benjamin's conversations with his daughters we learn he was born on "Mallory Hill" which was the Mallory homestead in Cayuga County 2 1/2 miles from the village of Levanna. We know Albert and Stella moved to North Dakota shortly after Benjamin was born. They had sold their New York property 1881. So it appears that the Mallorys, Albert E. Bowens and Fredrick and Winnie Bowen moved to the Dakota Territory at the same time or within a few months of each other.

Son, Albert Eugene, was born to Albert Eugene and Stella Rebecca on May 04, 1885 in James River Valley Township, Dickey County, North Dakota. Very interesting that Albert Eugene the father was also born May 04, but in 1849.

Albert's wife Stella Rebecca died September 11, 1892, age 31 years and is buried in Oakes View Cemetery, Oakes, ND. I was unable to obtain a death certificate to find the cause of death. Albert taught school in Dickey County 1894-95 for 60 days, 1897-98 from July - December 1897, in 1898 - 1899 taught 44 days.

Albert E. and his son Bert E. (Albert) show up in the June 11,1900 Census living in James River Valley Towenship, ND, Albert farmer and Bert Farmer Laboror. Benjamin, who was born to Albert and Stella, July 20, 1881, while they still lived in Ledyard, Cayuga County, New York is not recorded with Albert.
