Leo David McCormick, was born in Iona, MN on February 11, 1927, the son of David and Anna (Weyker) McCormick. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On February 21, 1952 Leo was united in marriage to Alice Ruppert at Currie, MN. Together the couple traveled extensively during his early years of employment with Stake Construction Company, until settling in Lennox, SD in 1965. He retired in 1985. His wife died January 6, 2001, ending a marriage of 49 years. Having been in declining health, Leo died suddenly, shortly after arrival at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls on Tuesday evening, March 11, 2008. He attained the age of 81 years and one month.
Grateful for having shared his life are his seven children; Kay (John) O'Neil, Carson City, NV; Mike (Marjean) McCormick, Sioux Falls, SD; Gloria (Lloyd) Poppens, Chancellor, SD; Barb Sheer and friend, Steve Miller, Burnsville, MN; Greg (Sue) McCormick, Rapid City, SD; Brenda (Tim) Plimpton, Hills, MN; Lee (Kibbi) McCormick, Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at Saint Magdalen's Catholic Church, Lennox, SD on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Celebrants Rev. Joe Vogel and Rev. Paul Pathiyamoola. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Lennox, SD. Military rites by Brethorst-Burma American Legion Post #174.
