I came across some information today which might interest you: John A. McNeil wrote a will in Pontotoc County 15 February 1878 with a codicil added 1 April 1881, witnessed by A. J. Hall, A. J. Brown and W. M. Huntington. John A. McNeil died July 1881. You will recall that there is a John A. McNeil born 1841 in AL died 1896 and buried in the Toccopola Cemetery, Pontotoc County. John who made the will left everything to his nephews and nieces, share and share alike, except for his niece, Mrs. Anna Reed, relect of Rasmus J. Reed "in whose house I have lived and in full appreciation and consideration of the uniform kindness and affectionate care she has always shown me." He left her the house in which she lived as all the furnishings and land and money as well as her equal share with her cousins. He left his brother, E. H. McNeil, the sum of $500. Stated that a brother, Abe C. McNeil, died indebted on his land...still unpaid. Also, Abe's son, Joel, was still indebted on his land. He said "Some of my brothers and sisters when they died were indebted to me...some living are indebted.." The debts were to be deducted from their children's inheritances. I was at the Archives today, trying to learn more about the divorce between John A. McNeil (1841-1896) and Mary Louise Strube. I didn't learn anything about the divorce, but came across the above information. Hope you can find it to be useful. Pat Notify Administrator about this message?
