My great-great grandmother was Sarah Ellen McPhail, born Sept. 27, 1852. She was a daughter of Duncan McPhail, who was listed in the 1850 census for Copiah County, MS. Sarah married Thomas G. Hilton, the father of my grandmother on my father's side, Lula Hilton Wilson. Census records show
Duncan McPhail as having been a farmer in NC before moving to Mississippi. The 1850 census listed him as 47 years of age. Would anyone have information on Duncan's forebears?
By the way, census records spell the famil name as McPhale,
which I assume was a spelling error.
