Hi, I am not related to the McPhail's, but my ancestor's brother, Eli Deshane, was the administrator of John McPhail's estate. There was a petition of the heirs to sell his estate in Montgomery County, Illinois. Part of the heirs were grandchildren. Widow-Polly McPhail- It lists James McCurry, William McCurry, Elizabeth McCurry,John McCurry, Levi Deshane, Sarah McPhail, Wm. C. McPhail, John McPhail, Mariah McPhail, George McPhail, Mariah McPhail, Mary McPhail, Rachel McPhail, Mary L. McPhail and Sarah Jane McPhail. Eli married Sally McPhail, whose first husband was James McCurry. They had 4 children who are on the 1850 census with Eli Deshane, head of Household. They were the James, William, Elizabeth, and John mentioned in the will. Levi Deshane is mentioned because he was son of Eli and Sarah McPhail McCurry. Several others of these may also be grandchildren. If I am looking at my census correctly, the 1860 census lists William in Eli's household but he is now listed as William McCurry.
