Thanks for the contact. My Irish family McQuellin may have been McQuillan. When my gggrandfather came to Australia in the 1860's he late bought over his younger brother James to work in hotels with him ion the 1880's, his surname is recorded as McQuillan but had the same parents. The process here (in Australia) for Irish immigrants or anyone who could not read or write was for the English port authorities to record the name as it was pronouncedand said by the new immigrant- it was not necessarily the way it was supposed to be spelt. Im interested if there might be a connection in the family as was customary in the time there were likely to be a number of children who stayed or immigrated from Ireland.
