My maternal grandfather was George Bernard Quillan (The Mc was dropped by my great great grandfather Andrew McQuillan). I don't know if there's a connection but many of the given names you mention are the same in records I have. Daniel, George, John, Catherine. It's logical that these children would be named after uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. My grandfather (George) had a brother named Daniel. He's not the Civil War vet you mentioned as he was born in 1876. There may or not be a connection but the area in Michigan is near where my family lived, near Parnell and Canonsburg, Mich. There are many Quillans in the area to this day, There graves are in St. Patrick's cemetery in Parnell.
