I am descended from Johann Andreas Michael Nagel (1711 - 1788)(Sulzbach - Nurnberg - Altdorf). His brother Maximilian Nagel studied under J.S.Bach at Thomasschule in Leipzig. Their father, Johann Nagel, (b1675 Westhausen,Thuringen; d1735Nurnberg) was Cantor in Sulzbach and at StLorenzkirche in Nurnberg. Johann's father, Peter Nagel, was Cantor in Westhausen and Hellingen and teacher in Heldburg (all in Thuringen). I have always thought there might be a connection between my Nagels and Sebastian, godfather to JSB, due to Sebastian and Peter (and Johann) all being cantors and all being connected to Thuringen, but have never been able to prove this.
