I have a family of Nagels that I have no idea where they came from in Germany or maybe even France. The father was John (Johann) Nicholas Nagel born about 1801 and the mother was Catherine, maiden name Rement possibly. They lived near Hecker on the St. Clair Co. side and emigrated around 1840, according to where their children were born, in the 1850 and 1860 census. The children were: Charles born 1830 in Germany, Margaret born 30 March 1836 in Germany, Henry born about 1838, Catherine, born 1840 in Germany, Sophia, born 1844, Mary, born in 1847 in Illinois. Charles was my gr-gr grandfather. The family later moved to Perry Co., Illinois in the late 1870s and nearly all of them passed away before 1880.
