My great-grandmother, granddaughter of James Stuart and his second wife, wrote, "James married Narcissa Nance - French Huguenot - from City of Nance in France." I am looking for information to prove or disprove this statement
James Stuart was born in Virginia on 26 Dec 1767 and died in Jefferson Co., Mississippi, 19 Dec 1836. He had at least 5 children by his first wife, including a daughter named Narcissa, and a granddaughter named Narcissa, daughter of Huldah Stuart Wade. James' first child by his second wife was born in June 1809 in Mississippi. Thus his first wife probably died before 1808. I have found no marriage record for either marriage. None of the children of the first wife survived to 1850 so I have no census giving their ages & places of birth. Tombstones give dates for son James Ford Stuart (06 Nov 1801-21 Jul 1841) and daughter Elizabeth Stuart Gibson (28 Dec 1803-09 Nov 1840).
Does anyone have a Narcissa Nance that could fit this family? I will appreciate any help.
