I am seeking any information that would assist in my research of the NELMS family history. My great grandfather, Alfred Nelms, and his father John sailed from England to Australia in 1873 aboard the barque 'Indus'. Alfred was baptised Alfred Dingle (born to the unwed Fanny Dingle) on 7 Oct 1855 at Great Milton, Oxfordshire. By the census of 1861 he was listed as Alfred Nelm(e)s and living with his father John Nelm(e)s. John's parents were Cook Nelms (1795) and Harriet Lovegrove who were married in 1824 and John was baptised on 27 July 1828. Other children of Cook and Harriet were Maryanne (1824), Henry (1831-34), Alfred (1833), and Elizabeth (1839). Cook's parents were Cook Nelms (1766) of Shabbington, Buckinghamshire and Mary North (1761) of Ickford.
