BACKGROUND: I am related to the Nelms' Family that inhabited that part of Texas just south of the Red River. Many of the Nelms’ family are buried in Fannin County, up around Ector and Bonham, Texas. The Reverend, John Archibald Nelms, was my 3rd Great-Grandfather, on my mother’s family side, the Dulaneys. The first Nelms came from London in about 1620. John Archibald was born 10 Dec 1797, in Virginia, probably in Shenandoah County, where his family had lived for eight generations. I have seen a number of Family Trees with the given names for John Arch’s father and grandfather being shown as Presly and William, respectively. I have been told by a Nelms' relative that their names were actually Richard (Father) and John (Grandfather). The person that told me about these names is probably the oldest living member of the Nelms' family. In fact, these names are recorded in the, now out-of-print, book, “Plow-Horse Calvary”, written by Mr. Robert S. Weddle. QUESTION: Which is Correct? Richard / John or Presly / William. What is the source for the names, Presly and William Nelms? Notify Administrator about this message?
