Your information helped add a few new details to my search. Thank you.

Thus far, I have come up with 3 Reason Nelsons: Reason #1: b. abt. 1700-1710? married to Ann Wilson (their children were Ambrose, John and William?)...Reason #1 is mentioned in your information as testifying on behalf of Ambrose in 1749
From what I've gleaned, John married Sarah Whitson and had a son named William who then married Sarah Craven and had Reason #2, b. abt. 1780/90. Reason #2 married Jane Thomas (their children were William, Mahalie, and Jonathan T.). Jonathan T. Nelson married Nancy Delaney (LDS record) and they had several children, including Reason #3, b. 1844/45. The 1860 census lists the Jonathan Nelson family, with Reason A. listed as Ransom A., age 16. (Census taker/transcriber error? or a nickname?) I think that Reason #3 is also the R.A. Nelson listed in the Tennessee Archives Confederate pension list as R.A. Nelson, Pension #S7707, County: Sullivan, Unit: 8th (Smith's) Cav. This would tie into your information about Amanda Jane Nelson (Minick). I still need to find out whether he was also married to Mary Jane Taylor in 1870 or whether they had my great-grandmother out of wedlock. They mystery continues....
