A biography/family history of Clarence W. Nelson is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1049 & 1050. Clarence was born, 13 Apr 1873, to Rezin and Rhoda A. (Sutlief) Nelson. Clarence was the grandson of Rezin & Eliza Nelson, of Pennsylvania, and a member of one of the old established American families of English ancestry.

The father, Rezin Nelson, Jr., was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but his widowed mother took him to Fond du Lac, WI. After serving in the Union Army, Rezin engaged in farming near Waseca, MN, and remained there the rest of his life. Children of Rezin and Rhoda Nelson: Lee B. (d. 1915, Saco, MT), Rezin, Jr. (Appleton, MN); Clarence Walter (Saco, MT); Roy (Saco, MT); Rex (Forsyth, MT); Earl (farmer near Waseco, MN); Nellie B. (Mrs. A.A. Birum, Saco, MT).

Clarence Nelson remained in Waseco until he was 21, being educated in Waseco and Faribault, MN. In 1898, he came to Saco, MT, and was their first school teacher. Later he and a partner, William H. Taylor, bought the stock of merchandise owned by Samuel Moore and began business under the name of C.W. Nelson and Co. In 1905, Clarence sold his store interests and in 1906 organized the First Bank of Saco and the name was later changed to C.W. Nelson & Co. He sold the bank to Davidson-Ross-Heggie banking interests in 1913 and it was consolidated under the name of The First National Bank of Saco. Clarence proved up a homestead of 160 acres adjoining Saco, and devoted himself to handling real estate, stock, and ranching.

In Jan 1904, Missoula, MT, Clarence married Miss Maisie L Taylor, born 9 Dec 1883, Waseca county, MN, daughter of William H. Taylor, whose biography also is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography". Maisie was educated in the schools of Missoula, MT.

Nelson children: Grace L., Earl W., Clarence Lee.
