My family history starts with the same little verse. It has been researched and I have found the aurthor to be, Thomas Haynes Bayly, found in book called Poems that Tell a Story. The name of the poem is, THE MISTLETOE BOUGH. I am decended from Thomas James and Agnas Nancy through their son Abraham, who married Ellen Strickling, of Ohio. Back to the poem I have a friend who is a research Librian and she said the that when the poem was written it very well could have been a true story and names changed, she has found that to have happened, no proof of anything.
