I read the census differently. I found Benj. F. Nichelson (sic) with apparent brothers Geo. W. 4 and Laneorgia (??? have no idea what his name was--couldn't read it) age 1 in the household of J.H. Briner 35 and his wife Elizabeth 34 and a Briner child age 6. My guess is the Nichelson children were nephews of either Mr. or Mrs Briner.

The Nichelson children were listed on the top of the page with the Briners finishing the prior page, but they were clearly in the same household listed 1754-1754 (house and family). All parties shown born Tn.

The Roberson family appears to be in a separate household but the same 1754-1754 number appears to have been used. My bet is the census taker erred carrying the same number over to the next page, rather than increasing it by one each. James R. and Sarah A. Roberson, age 43 and 38, plus 6 Roberson children followed by Albert Helton, age 24. All parties shown born Tn.

Unless someone replies who knows specifically who these "Nichelson" children belong to, it would probably take a reading of Monroe custody records to find their parent's names---they were all born after the prior census.

Were the Nichelson kids related to Helton or the Robersons? Nothing to show they were more than neighbors. Helton may have been related to the Robersons, or he may have been a hired hand.

I have seen more than one case of Robersons being related to Nicholsons. In DeKalb Co. Ala., Thomas Nicholson (son of James (b 1793) and Lavina, grandson of RWS John (1763-1858) and Susan Brown Nicholson) was married to a Roberson in the same time period. The other case was in Georgia (Habersham) decades earlier). I believe I've seen a Helton/Nicholson association too, but I can't remember the occasion and it may have been a casual association (neighbor?)of no import. Then again, the Helton association could have been with a different surname I was researching.

There was a large clan of Nicholsons in Monroe Tenn circa 1830, but we can't be sure these Nichelson children relate to them. My guess is there is some kind of relationship. Again, hopefully someone descended from these "Nichelson" children, or their close relative, will know who they are and might know if there's a Helton connection.

Good luck.
