I am looking for the descendants of Jacob Nichelson born circa 1848 in Milford Twp, Somerset Co, PA. He was one of 13 children of William Nichelson 1808-1857 and Katherine Kempfield (also found her as Catherine Campfield). Our name shows up in records as Nichelson; Nickleson and Nicholson, but have found Niccolson and Nickles/Nichols also. I have even tried reseaching Nicklow. I have tried to connect to the Jacob Nickelson mentioned by Sharon Strain, but the dates do not match. I have no idea if my Jacob Nichelson even survived childhood as he disappears from the Census records along with several of his siblings after the death of their father. The mother and two youngest children are living with the oldest married son and his family in the 1860 Census and one daughter (Sarah age 17) is living with the second son and his family in 1860. The other children were probably living with friends/family and may have been using the last names of the family who took them in. My only other conclusion is that there was a house fire or an epidemic that took their lives. The 2nd son in this family, David, is my great-great-grandfather. He and two other brothers fought in the Civil War and the oldest brother, Benjamin, died in the Andersonville Prison Camp in 1864. Notify Administrator about this message?
