Jennie Nickelson claimed she was born in Bridgeton, NJ on 23 Aug 1860. Family tradition has it that Rachel was raised in a foundling home, which burnt to the ground. My aunt, who was her grand daughter, believes a family took her in. It is not known if her surname was Nickelson at birth, or if she took the name of the family that adopted her. She married George Vasey 5 Mar 1883 in Philadelphia, and eleven of their children survived to adulthood. Any information that might lead to the discovery of her parents or the history of her stay in the foundling home would be welcome.
