In Nelson County Wills, Book D, p. 550 is will of Philip Norris, written 30 May 1823, proven 21 July 1823. He names two sons, Thomas and Matthew, and mentions other children but not by name. except for daughter, Trecey Norris and a grandson, Samuel Norris. But "residue fo my goods to leave on common credit and proceeds to be equally divided between all my children. No wife mentioned. Six slaves in inventory. Thomas Norris, will is written 17 Sept 1826, proven 12 Feb 1827, all to be left to his brother,Matthew, mentions no wife nor children. Does metnion his estate is "mostly consisting of the property my father left me, consisting of land, negroes on premises where he died." My interest in this family is that Matthew Norris was bondsman for marriage of John Urban Medcalf to marry Mtilda Norris in 1845 in Nelson County, no relationship given. The bride and groom were of age. John Urban Medcalf is believed to be only son of Ignatius Medcalf, Jr. and his first wife, Eleanor "nellie" Ritchie, a daughter of John Ritchie, Sr. and Jemima Quick. I'm guessing that Matilda Norris could be one of the un-named children of Philip Norris and unknown wife. Daniel Culver, William Norris, J. R. Medcalf, Matthew aNorris, Jonathan Norris, Joseph Medcalf, Nicholas Figg were amongst buyers of Philip Norris's belongings, Aug. 11, 1823. Matthew Norris being one who bought probably more than any other buyer that day. The final estate settlement paper that could ;be found does not give the names of all the children. I have not checked guardian records yet. Be glad to share any information and wonder who Philip Norris's wife was. Ann Sipes Ekron, Meade Co.
