I have been trying for many years to find the origin of my ancestor Ambrose Alexander NORRIS, Sr., who was in Laurens Co., SC, in the 1830 census. I recently had a cousin do the y-DNA test. The results indicate that my family is related to a NORRIS family that was in Greenville Co., SC, about 1800. The match was to Joshua NORRIS, b abt 1776 SC, d abt 1833 KY?, who m Sarah YOUNG abt 1801. Sarah, b abt 1783 NC, d abt 1845 KY, was the daughter of John Franklin YOUNG & Susan Elizabeth PARKER YOUNG, according to a posting on this forum. The Joshua NORRIS family moved to Laurel/Clay Co., KY. The Joshua NORRIS family is probably connected to the family in Greenville that was supposed to have been from Lunenburg Co., VA.
My NORRIS family was in Forsyth Co., GA, by 1840, & then moved to Harris Co., GA by 1850. By 1880, the family had moved to Russell Co., AL.
Another match was to William NORRIS & Mary GODDARD of TN, whose son John Sherman NORRIS was born in KY 18 Jun 1865 & d Paris, AR, 6 Mar 1939.
I will continue to work on the links between the three families but would certainly appreciate any help that anyone could give me. I do not want to rely on the Harry Alexander Davis book on the NORRIS family as a source. I have found many inaccuracies in the book regarding my own family & do not believe that mine is the only family with this problem.
