I'm looking for parents of Alexander Bertram (Bertrand) Delbert Norris, who was born January 19, 1855 in Louisiana and died October 17, 1922 in Kemp, Kaufman County, Texas. He married Dora Emaline Hobbs on March 20, 1881 in Kaufman County, Texas. Dora was born July 8, 1862 in Scurry, Kaufman County, Texas, and died May 18, 1949 in Kemp, Kaufman County, Texas.
Prior to his marriage to Dora, Alexander was on the 1880 census in the household of David Duncan:

His life before that is a mystery. He's buried in the Pyle Prairie Cemetery in Kaufman, listed as "Elazadner Burton Delbert Norris".
It's said that he spoke French and pronounced his last name as "Noreece". An ancestor of his was purported to have been involved with the Battle of New Orleans in 1812 as a member of LaFitte's crew. However, his wife, Dora Hobbs' family had a strong military background and there might be confusion about which branch of the family was involved with the War of 1812. Alexander states that his parents were from Mississippi (also says "Old States" and "Old Dominion" at various points), which suggests that they followed the typical migration from Mississippi to Northeast Texas.
The children of Alexander Norris and Dora Hobbs were:
--Fred Lee Norris, born 1885 in Texas. Fred married Ethel Lee Martin on January 3, 1908 in Kaufman County, Texas. Fred died Nov. 17, 1952 in Llano County, Texas.
--Ruben Custer Norris, born 1887. Ruben married Maude Frances Bonds on December 18, 1910 in Kaufman County, Texas. Ruben died September 21, 1972 in Kaufman County, Texas.
--Jefferson Ernest Norris, born 1891. He married M. Ethel Bonds on August 29, 1909 in Kaufman County, Texas. Jefferson died May 16, 1954 in Kaufman County, Texas.
--Grace Ann Norris, born December 18, 1891. Grace married Nathan Earl Mikel in 1911. She died April 20, 1979.
--Stony Delbert Norris, born about 1895. He married Emma Lola Patterson on January 7, 1917 in Kaufman County, Texas. Stony died July 31, 1956 in Odessa, Ector County, Texas.
The only Norris I've found in this area at the time is John M. Norris, whose children by Julia Ann Peel were William Nubern Norris and Laura Jane Norris. There is at least a tenuous connection to this group due to Alexander living with David and Emeline Duncan in the 1880 census and his being buried in the Pyle Prairie Cemetery, but no solid connection has been found. Others have said John's father is likely Archibald Norris of Tishomingo County, Mississippi. I could not find any siblings of John's who looked like a good match to be a parent of Alexander.
