I cannot positively answer your question except to say your William was not a son of Richard and Sally Florence Northcutt. I think he is most likely the son of William Northcut (Sr) of Chesterfield and Buckingham Counties in Va which is where Mary Hill's family were from, too. I think he came to central Ky, area of Lincoln Co. The family then migrated county by county to southside Kentucky. Royal Northcutt was a different person, too, possibly a brother of your William who married Mary Hill. Royal whose given name is variously spelled (Rial, Ryall, and even Urial) married Polly Bradley in Madison Co., Ky in 1799. Middle names are rather uncommon in mid-18th century Virginia and I have never seen William (Sr) with any middle name or initial. People often try to reconcile apparently conflicting data by merging two people and giving them a middle name--pretty bad genealogy!
Remember that what I say above are "probabilities" based on a fair amount of data, but far from proven.
