hi.
I have recently come into some records of my fathers' baptism date, parish etc, and noticed that he was sponsored by a John Burke and a Mary O'Sullivan. this was in 1942. I am assuming that 'Sponsored' means God-parents. Our family is originally from the Kerry areas, and there are Scannells, O'Sullivans, Burkes, Duggans, Fitzgeralds, Twoumeys(don't know if I've spelt this right) Slattery's, Caseys' Shanahans' and McCarthys' in the family, all connected through marriage.
I am only just managing to get somewhere with my Irish clans after years of research. But do know that they all go way back. I have been told that the o'sullivans, Shanahans Fitzgeralds, McCarthys' and Twoumeys are mostly connected on my grandfather Scannells side, Whereas the Burkes, Duggans, Slatterys, and Caseys' are mostly from my grandmothers side.
If any of these names rings a bell, I would be very interested to hear from you or anyone else who may think there is a connection. I don't often visit geneaology.com and can be reached more quickly through my email address.
