I am searching for any descendants of Lucius (Lute) Pease. Born on March 27, 1869 in Winnemucca, Nevada, Lute was raised by his grandparents in Charlotte, Vermont, from the age of five following the death of his parents. After high school, he moved to Oregon where he worked as a reporter and artist for the Portland Oregonian. After some travels in Alaska, he returned to Portland and became editor of the Pacific Monthly, a literary magazine. Later he moved back east and, in 1914, joined the Evening News of Newark, New Jersey, where he worked for the next forty years. He received a Pulitzer Prise for one of his cartoons in 1949. From his retirement in 1954 until his death on August 16, 1963, he devoted himself to his art, including painting and cartoons. He was predeceased in 1958 by his artist wife, Nell Christmas Pease. Please contact me at rpm@dpfnapa.com or cell 707-294-8989 if you know the whereabouts of any of Lute Pease's descendants.
