Followup on my posting for Henry Peck: Someone was kind enough to send me the obituary of Henry N. Peck. Henry died 3 Nov 1925 and had 12 children; 6 boys and 6 girls. He was born in Broadford, Smyth Co, VA. The obituary stated that he was buried next to his wife; thus, assuming the obituary is correct, no one entered his death date on the headstone in the Mt. Olivet cemetery. Here is the interesting, and vital part of the obituary. It stated that his mother died while he was a young boy and that he grew to manhood on his grandmother's farm. This implies that his father was already dead. I show Jacob Peck dying around 1843 or so. His mother would have died a few years later. Now, a 15 yeqar old Henry Peck was living with the Peter Gose Litz family in the 1850 Tazewell Co census. Peter Gose Litz is the brother to Julia Ann Litz Romans and both are the children of Leonard and Julia Ann Gose Litz. Thus, it would appear that Peter Litz lived on his parents homestead...and Henry then grew up on his grandmother's farm. To me, this is proof positive that Henry N. Peck's parents were Jacob and Julia Ann Litz Romans Peck. Can anyone out there counter or add to this premise? Thanks, Larry Notify Administrator about this message?
