I am not a Peebles descendant but am researching Sampson Strickland of Isle of Wight Co. VA, Surry Co. VA and Wake Co. NC. When Sampson's wife Christiana sought guardianship of their minor children at Sampson's death in 1781 (in Wake Co. NC), John Peebles and John Rogers signed her guardian's bond for 1200 pounds specie (I am told that that was about $2,400). These families lived near the Neuse River near Rogers Crossroads (today called Wake Crossroads). There was a Mill Creek which was apparently called Peebles Mill Creek in some deeds. I am looking for information on this John Peebles who signed the guardian's bond and would also like to know about this mill. These could connect to the Hortons and the Peebles who migrated to Pickens Co. AL. One wave of people from eastern Wake Co. went there in 1825 and and another group migrated in 1835. Thanks.
