Hi Ian, I have just discovered an article in the Family Tree Magazine [U.K.]1985 which says that in 1709 a group of people came to England from Germany and were called "the Poor Palatine Protestants". Documents in the PRO Kew in London. Some of these went to New York but it states that most stayed in England giving the country [and here it lists names one of which is PENDER.] Regards Norma Biggs-[descended from Elizabeth Pender who came to Australia in 1839.]
