Information on the Pender name change

I have been trying to find out information on the Pender name for about 20 years. No one seems to no that my Pender line does not go back that far. It has not alwaysed had a 'd' in the name but a 't'. Are the Pender's hiding something? Come on I just want to find ancesters not dig up dirt. I got as far back as my great grandfather and that's about it. Can anyone help out?
