Sarah Luther Smith Pender's father was Lois Luther Smith and her mother was Sarah Ann Thomas (Embree). We aren't sure of the significance of the name Embree (perhaps her father's given name???). Lois is the correct first name of her father, rather than Louis. Sarah Luther was born 1/20/1881 in Slaughter, LA. She died in 1978 and was buried in the New Salem Methodist Church cemetary in Attala County, MS. She married Arthur Jacob Pender, Sr. (1869-1941), and they had nine children: William Stribling (1902-1933); Walter Mervin (1904-1972); Mary Ella (1905-1975); Charles Othal, female (1908-1965); James Kimbal (1911-1973); my grandfather, Arthur Jacob, Jr. (1913-1996); Susan Elaine (1915); Sarah Lois (1920-1975); Barbara Jean (1929).
